Respect, Consent & Animal Safety in Our Psychedelic Lives
Nowak Society | Feb 4 2026
Summary
As psychedelic use expands, animal safety and consent are often overlooked. This session explores how altered human states have the potential to impact the animals around us. This talk aims to highlight the ways that psychedelic experiences impact not just the human but also the animals in our family that we hold so dear. Learn how it is possible to honor an animal’s experience alongside our own.
Drawing on veterinary science, trauma-informed care, and harm-reduction principles, presenters Dori Lewis, MA, MEd, LPC-S, and Dr. Casara Andre, DVM, examine stress-related injuries in animals and offer practical guidance for safer preparation, session, and integration practices. Participants are invited to expand concepts of consent and responsibility to support the wellbeing of all-species communities.
